Scary night!

Well, little Jacob gave us quite a scare the other night! I had been having cramps for 3 days, but they were so minor I didn't really think anything of it. But on the third day, I figured I should call the doctor. So I called late in the afternoon when there were about to close, and to my surprise (and horror!) the nurse told me to go straight to labor and delivery! So I left work and flew to the hospital in record time. They hooked me up to a fetal heart monitor and another monitor to see if I was having contractions. His heartbeat was fine, but I wasn't too worried about that since he was still moving around like crazy. The contraction monitor said I was having very, very small contractions- yikes! Also, the nurse checked my cervix and said I was a fingertip dilated. Yikes again! They gave me a shot of terbutaline to try to stop the contractions (although I don't think it worked). Then they did the fetal fibronectin test and drew some blood, and Sean arrived to keep me company while we waited for the results.

Thankfully, the fetal fibronectin test came back negative, which means it is very unlikely that I would go into labor in the next two weeks. Here is a little info about the test:

Fetal Fibronectin

The bloodwork came back fine, so they discharged me and told me to see my doctor in the morning. The next morning, my doctor did not seem at all concerned about what had happened. She checked my cervix again and I was still only a fingertip dilated. She said they do not consider a fingertip to be "dilated". I was still having contractions, but she said not to worry unless they get more intense. This was Friday morning, today is Saturday and they have finally stopped!

Listen here Jacob, 27 weeks is TOO early for you to come out! You need to wait at LEAST 10 more weeks! Thank you.

More belly pictures

Well, my belly has really exploded! I have even started receiving stranger comments, which was very exciting. My first one happened around 22 weeks, when I was standing in the pickle aisle of Publix with my hand on my belly. She said "Are you craving pickles?". I laughed and I was very excited that someone could finally tell I was pregnant! Here goes...Deb getting huge...

24 weeks (6 months!!)

So I am now 24 weeks, which is a very important milestone. Most babies born before 24 weeks do not survive; at 24 weeks, chance of survival jumps to 50%. Don't get any ideas Jacob- you need to cook in there for about 16 more weeks!

Here is Sean working on the closet organizer in the nursery- it looks great! It is now finished, more pictures to come.

We got our stroller!

After lots of research and trying every stroller in the store, we decided on the Uppa Baby Vista. It has everything we want in a stroller, and even came with a sun shade, bug screen, and rain cover. Here are some pictures:

Here it is with the bassinet

And here it is with the seat (facing out)

The seat can also face towards you

And our infant seat works with it as well, which will be great for when the baby is sleeping and we don't want to wake him up. Also, check out that huge basket underneath! The wheels are made of foam so they never go flat, and you can lock them and jog with the stroller.

Baby Toole is a boy!!!

Well, we had our big ultrasound last Monday and our baby boy was not shy! In fact, he was very cooperative and let the tech get all the shots and measurements she needed. It is amazing how much has changed since our last ultrasound! Everything was perfect, and measured spot on at 19 weeks. She measured all the body parts, and we also saw the brain, the 4 chambers of the heart, the kidneys, and the spine, which the tech said all look great! Here is how we told our parents what we are having:

My parents- we sent them a package that had 2 wrapped packages, one labeled Bubbe (Grandma) and one labeled Zaide (Grandpa). My Mom's contained chocolate and bubble gum cigars and my Dad's had a real cigar; all were labeled "It's a boy". Here are some pictures- thank you Sarah for playing photographer!

One final touch

"What is the arrow pointing to?"

The revealing ultrasound (more pictures to come- Sean left them at work!)

For Sean's parents, we baked cupcakes and filled the center with blue icing.

All ready!

Is Bailey going to have a little brother or sister??

We are so excited for our baby boy! His name will be Jacob Walter. Jacob is a name we both really like, and Walter is Sean's middle name, his Dad's middle name, his Grandfather's middle name, his Great-Grandfather's first name...we're not sure how far back it goes!
