A note from Jacob

Hello friends, Jacob here. I'd like to tell you about my day. It involves avocado, a playdate, and a tooth. Come along.

Lets start with the avocado. Although I enjoyed the rice cereal the other day, it made me gassy and I woke up 3 times! So Mom and Dad thought it would be best to move on to something else. They heard avocado is a great first food.

I was open to the idea (notice Mom and Dad wised up and put a bib on me!)

What is this??? WHAT IS THIS???

NO NO NO!

Maybe I will wear it instead...I do look good in green, after all

I'm sure this spoon is here for a reason- to make a work of art out of my food?

A true artist does not need a spoon. Excuse me as I create my masterpiece

I'm a little sad that I don't like avocados. Mom and Dad say they will try again tomorrow. I say- good luck!

Not to worry, Jacob fans! My day gets better from here! We went to a play date at Stephanie's house and I got to see my friends

Aren't they cute? You are probably wondering where I was...

....over here putting the moves on Olivia

I knew I could win her over

Would you like to meet my friends? (Notice I am the only boy!). This is Rowan, Olivia, me of course, Shayna, Gretchen, and Paige

She loves me....

....she loves me not :(

This is how I like to end playdates

And I promised you a tooth. If you think it is easy to take a picture of a 6 month old's tooth- well, you would be wrong. Case in point:
Success! I sprouted this guy on July 3, a day before my 6 month birthday

I got a new toy this week- a bucket with blocks. It is fabulous. I like to bang the blocks around inside because it makes a loud noise. And of course, I like to nom on them too.

Mmmm I love the blue ones

Doesn't get much cuter than this!

I like to devote a few minutes out of each day to thinking of a solution for world peace (or maybe I was pooping. who remembers)

I LOVE Bailey.....

....and Bailey loves me!

Thanks for reading!

First night of solids!

I have mixed feelings about this night. In a way I am sad- this ends our 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding. I loved this phase. It was so easy. Nothing to think about, no need to plan ahead. As long as I was nearby, food was ready and available! But, we can't do this forever (or so I am told). So I am starting to get excited for all the wonderful foods Jacob will get to try! At the recommendation of our pediatrician, we are starting with rice cereal mixed with breastmilk. I prepared it according to the can and it was very watery. This will ease him into the thicker consistency of solid foods.

Holding his spoon, ready to eat!

First bite....

Not too sure

Still not sure

Loves it! Eventually he started smiling every time the spoon came towards him

First solid feeding = success

6 month appointment

Today was Jacob's 6 month appointment. He did great and it seems that he is right on track. The doctor asked if he is sitting (yes), babbling (yes), and sleeping through the night (yes). He said that he is very happy that we waited to start solids and that I am still breastfeeding. We had a long talk about solids and I'm actually kind of a little bit looking forward to it ;) I guess I can't exclusively breastfeed him forever. Or can I??? No? Ok :(

Here is the little guy at his appointment:

And here are his stats:

I was a bit concerned about his weight percentile, but the doctor said he is actually between the 25th and 50th percentile and that his weight is just fine. (Also he hadn't eaten yet- that would have added a few ounces!)

Fourth of July weekend festivities

Well, in addition to being Jacob's half birthday, it was also his first fourth of July!

Saturday night (July 3) we went to a festival in Baldwin Park:

With Tanta Sarah

We were trying to leave before the fireworks started but they started as we got to our car. Turns out, he loved them! He didn't mind the loud noises at all! He is all boy!

Sunday night (July 4): we went to a party at Star's house.
Saying hi to his friend Allison (and Star and Amanda)

Visiting with Joanne and Holly

Aren't they cute together?

The three of us

Monday, July 5:

First, here is Jacob playing with his new train that Grandma Jane got him for his 6 month birthday:

Ready to go for a swim at the Grandparents (Toole)

Do these two look alike or what??

I love how he holds onto the handles

Bon Voyage!

Jacob wasn't the only one who enjoyed the pool...Bailey is quite the swimmer!

Yep. He fell asleep in his jumperoo
